About the Minnesotan

Thanks for visiting my website. I am a reader, writer, and ideator — lucky to live in the Twin Cities where a vibrant literary and artistic community keeps life wonderful.

(Don’t believe me? Visit my Literary Minnesota page for a listing of local resources.)

As an outdoor-enthusiast — the tent-loving, zip-off shorts wearing, questionable marshmallow-roasting variety — I fit right in at my day job, an environmental nonprofit organization where I serve as Advancement Director (an all-encompassing position covering communications, marketing and fundraising, plus a few more hats). I also dabble in freelance writing, and have been published in the Utne Reader, Minnesota Paddler, the Ivory Tower (University of Minnesota), and reprinted in a new property law academic textbook by Captus Press.

I specialize in nonfiction on environmental issues, outdoor recreation, fitness, mindful lifestyles, book reviews, and cultural happenings in the Twin Cities, as well as creative works of poetry, memoir and fiction. Creativity is one of my highest values; I express mine through writing, watercolor, pottery, home renovation, and crème brûlée.

And I suppose you’ve gathered by now (you know, blog name and all) that books are my bag.

Big ones, skinny ones, e-ones. Tatty, new or loaned. Mystery, biography, philosophy … verses scratched on public bathroom walls. Each book (or poem, letter, story, etc.) is a different experience, evoking emotions, realizations, enjoyment. My blog, NOTES on the written world, is an outlet for staying connected with my literary experiences and sharing them with you.
